Mumbai, Dec 14 (ANI): At least 34 students of a secondary school showed symptoms of nausea after consuming milk, served in the government-sponsored mid-day meal in Mumbai on Friday.
The children, who suffered from food poisoning, were mostly students of eighth and ninth standards of the New L J Road Municipal School.
“At 8.30 in the morning I was given milk, after which I vomited. This has never happened before,” said Suresh Godbole, a student.
After the children vomited and complained of stomach pain, they were admitted to a nearby hospital.
The condition of the children is reported to be stable and out of danger.
Palsule Desai, the school Head Mistress, said: “The meal was provided for 104 students out of which 34 reportedly vomited. They are now in good health and proper care is being taken.” Meanwhile, the police are investigating the incident.
The government runs a huge midday meal scheme for children, with 120 million signed up to receive one hot, nutritious meal free on every school day. (ANI)
