- Mumbai July 11 (ANI): Mumbaikars today paid rich tribute to the victims of the 2006 serial train blast.
Even after three years of the incident, the wounds still run raw as daily travelers in Mumbai trains recall the horrors of the fateful day.
On July 11, 2006, seven blasts ripped through the commuter trains in 11 minutes, throwing the financial capital of the country out of gear and into an absolute state of terror. The blast left 186 killed and more than 500 injured.
Commuters, police and railway officials paid tributes to the blast victims at the memorial built at Mahim junction, which is one of the sites of serial blasts.
“It is a very solemn occasion and its befitting that we pay homage to all those who lost their lives during the blasts,” said RS Chug, Additional General Manager, Western Railway.
Seven persons were identified in connection with the blasts, of which, four belonging to a banned Muslim students outfit, Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), were taken into custody. (ANI)
