Mumbai airport runways re-open after being shut for five hours
April 23rd, 2011 - 8:15 pm ICT by ANIMumbai, Apr 23 (ANI): Flights in and out of Mumbai were drastically rescheduled today after both runways at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport remained closed for five hours from 11.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Considerable delays were reported after the airport reopened in the evening due to the backlog.
Authorities said they had notified of the changes to airline officials.
At present, the Mumbai International Airport Ltd has been carrying out the reconstruction of the main runway. Besides, edge lights and centreline lights of the runways are also being shifted and realigned.
The runways will be closed for the same span of time on April 30 as well.
Mumbai’s main runway is 11,000 feet long and secondary is over 9,500 feet long. The intersection is close to the middle of the two runways. (ANI)
