New Delhi, Jan 3 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has urged Pakistan to act against all militant outfits operating from its soil in any form and under any name.
Mukherjee said Pakistan has the duty to act against these outfits even if they change their names. Pakistan is a party to various international conventions and if it fails to take any action, then the international community will take ”appropriate action”.
“It is the responsibility of the Pakistan Government to stop the activities of these banned organisations in any form, in any name, in any shape. They are party to various international conventions and therefore these steps are being taken by the United Nations Organisation (UNO). If Pakistan do not comply with it, it is the international community to take appropriate action. What we have suggested to them, please fulfill your commitments, which you have given to us and take action against the perpetrators of these terrorist acts on us,” said Mukherjee. India is apprehensive that the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the political outfit of the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), will change its name again to evade a government imposed ban.
Pakistan has offered to cooperate with India and promised to try any Pakistani found involved in the attacks, but at the same time, it says India is yet to provide evidence.
Building up pressure against Pakistan, India has repeatedly asked Pakistan to act against the perpetrators of the Mumbai carnage, and said that action is important to prove Islamabad is taking a tough stand against terror outfits. (ANI)
