Monitoring unit set up in PMO to oversee flagship programmes

Pratibha Patil New Delhi, July 8 (ANI): Government on Wednesday set up a monitoring unit in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to observe several flagship programmes and to guarantee transparency in its functioning.

“The Delivery Monitoring Unit will be an oversight mechanism for select flagship programmes with a view to improving monitoring arrangements, delivery of output and transparency,” Principal Secretary to PM, T K A Nair, said.

Several projects, including National Rural Health Mission, National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Rajiv Awas Yojana, Bharat Nirman, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Multi-Sectoral District Plans for Minority Concentration Districts, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission among others be under close scrutiny of the mechanism.

The unit will also monitor Right to Information, Public Data Policy, Annual Reports on five identified topics, setting up Independent Evaluation Office, Prime Ministers Reconstruction Plan for Jammu and Kashmir.

Other areas listed for scrutiny are Innovation Universities-Decade of Innovation, Development of Land Ports, Setting up National Council for Human Resources in Health, Setting up National Council for Higher Education and Assam Gas Cracker Project.

Earlier, President Pratibha Patil had announced that the government would set up a Delivery Monitoring Unit in the PMO for the purpose. (ANI)
