Kolkata, Jan 9 (ANI): Union Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Sunday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for accusing the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre over the various scams, asserting that the Opposition makes such statements to camouflage the misdeeds done by its own leaders.

“All the statements have been made and all the resolutions taken by the BJP that is to masquerade their wrongs. All those scams, which they think are scams, have been treated by them also. It is their policies, right from 2001, which led to the 2G scam and many of the issues, which they are speaking about, they all belong to them not to the Congress Party or the UPA coalition,” said Moily.

He also noted that there is no need of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) as already matters are being analysed and probed by many other reliable bodies including a former Supreme Court Judge.

“CBI has started inquiry and you know barely CBI inquiry was made, the minister (Telecom Minister Raja) was asked to resign. He resigned, and now the CBI is monitored by the Supreme Court. And criminal investigation, if there is any criminal element it is for the CBI to investigate, not for the JPC to do that,” said Moily.

“Apart from that, we have also ordered an inquiry by a retired Supreme Court judge namely Shivraj Patil. He is also inquiring in all these things you know right from 2001. The Public Accounts Committee, which is headed by the BJP senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi with all this where is the space for Joint Committee,” added.

The Law Minister also lashed out at the Opposition for insisting with its demands for a JPC probe into the 2G-spectrum scam.

Further expressing his concern over the law and order situation in West Bengal, Moily said: “West Bengal is not a happy law and order situation. I think the right thing is you have to direct the stand that the Congress has been taking, that is the serious combing operation of all the arms, which are being stocked anywhere and then that is the first thing to be done before the elections are declared.”

“I think that is what, with we are leaving. That the law and order is an important thing, violence is not an answer in the democratic responses,” he added.

Six villagers, including a woman were killed and over 20 injured in firing by suspected armed CPI-M cadres in Lalgarh in West Bengal’s West Midnapore District on Friday.

The villagers, who had gathered to protest against demands made by Marxist armed cadre that they volunteer for night patrols and arms training, were fired at from a house at Netai village in Belatikri gram panchayat in Lalgarh police station area. (ANI)
