New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): The Mizoram Annual Plan 2008-09 was finalised here today.
Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga finalised the Annual Plan at Rs.1,000 crore (Rs 10 billion), including additional Central assistance of Rs 70 crore (Rs 700 million) for projects of special interest to the State.
Ahluwalia appreciated the efforts being made for accelerating infrastructure development and said that significant progress has been achieved in the sectors of road transport, power, education and health.
While 94.4 per cent of the villages have been connected with approach roads, 98.6 per cent villages have been electrified. Some sectors like transport, education and health have expanded rapidly contributing to the tertiary sector income.
Ahluwalia expressed the need to explore the State’s horticulture and floriculture potential.
He said all districts of the State would be covered under the National Rural Employment Guaranteed Scheme (NREGS) from next year.
Zoramthanga said that the priorities of XIth Plan as well as holistic development have been kept in mind while formulating the Annual Plan 2008-09. (ANI)
