New Delhi, Mar 7 (ANI): The Supreme Court today asked the Haryana Government to identify the persons and organisation responsible for staging demonstration in December last year against booking of some upper caste people in connection with the Mirchpur caste violence last year in which an elderly Dalit man and his daughter were killed in an arson attack.

An apex court bench comprising Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly also directed the government and the Railway Board to spell out steps taken by them to recover financial loss caused following the eleven-day stir organised by 12 ‘khap’ panchayats.

The Supreme Court further said that there must have been some kind of political backing behind it, while granting two weeks time to reply.

Villagers had been protesting the booking of 98 members of their community in the case.

Mirchpur village in Hisar district hit the headlines last year when the dominant upper caste Jat members set fire to a row of houses of the Dalit (Balmiki) families April 21 last year.

A 70-year-old man and his 18-year-old physically challenged daughter were killed in the fire in their home and at least 18 houses were destroyed in the attack. (ANI)
