Islamabad , Oct 22 (ANI): Pakistan security agencies fear that militants were planning to kidnap high-profile diplomats. The threat was conveyed by an intelligence agency to the countrys police authorities in the form of highly classified information with instructions to enhance security and inform the relevant embassies about the nature of the threat.

Sources in the security agencies said that the militants were planning to kidnap senior diplomats, while security agencies were busy in forestalling possible suicide attacks against the political leadership or against the places frequented by foreigners, reported the Daily Times.

They said that the previous pattern of attacks against foreigners showed militants had been clever in choosing targets, and they usually caught the security agencies off guard.

They first attacked a restaurant, Luna Caprese, on March 15, followed by an attack on the Danish embassy on June 2, and an attack targeting the Marriott on September 20, the paper quoted the sources as saying.

They added that the Diplomatic Protection Police had formally conveyed the threat to the embassies and asked them to take elaborate precautionary measures to save their staff from possible kidnapping efforts.

They said the information was provided only to the embassies of some important countries. However, it slowly trickled down to smaller embassies and their staff, creating panic and concern among the diplomatic community. (ANI)
