MHA alerts Gujarat of LeT infiltration
August 19th, 2009 - 4:31 pm ICT by IBNSAhmedabad, Aug 19 (IBNS) An alert has been issued by the Home ministry to the Gujarat government of Lashkar-e-Taiba preparing to land its men in its coast. Villages and towns located north of Koteshwar and Mandvi ports are the new focus of terror.
Security officials said as a result of increased patrolling, nine Pakistanis were arrested near a power station in western Kutch on Monday.
LeT intercepts suggested that their supporters in border areas of Gujarat were to arrange motorized boats near Koteshwar and Mandvi. The areas north of Koteshwar between Kori and Padala creeks are notorious for cross-border infiltration.
The MHA warned that patrolling along the coast needs to be intensified and fishermen closely watched since fishermen could be involved in the landing activity. Certain industrial installations could also be the target along the coast.
Thick mangrove vegetation along the coast near Sir Creek in Savla Pir and Kotri areas is ideal for hiding and therefore vulnerable for infiltration.
The Indian Coast Guard and Border Security Force patrol the waters in speed boats that often cannot enter the shallow and marshy creeks.
