London, Nov 30 (ANI): A Brit woman who gulped down two bottles of wine after being unsuccessful at finding her Alcoholics Anonymous meeting was dubbed the “most drunken driver” by police.
Jane Hofmann, 39, was so drunk that she measured five times over the legal limit of alcohol when she was pulled over by the police and was helped out from her car.
Hofmann, the wife of an award winning pie maker, had drunk so much that she drifted in and out of consciousness while going to the police station in the officers” car.
Two officers spotted her driving her Mercedes 4×4, with personalized number plates, without her lights on and was repeatedly speeding up and slowing down, and weaving into the path of oncoming traffic.
Wakefield magistrates was told that the lady, residing in Sharlston, West Yorks, was going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in nearby Pontefract but became upset when she could not find her way,
After spotting her on the A645 yards away from her home, police flashed their lights but Hofmann didnt stop.
One of the officers, who finally pulled her over, said that she was the “drunkest he had ever seen in his whole career as a police officer, reports The Telegraph.
Hofmann was transferred to hospital after she was stopped at 9.45pm on September 1 where a blood sample was taken.
She was found with 417mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, while the legal limit is 80mg.
Hofmann pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to driving over the prescribed limit.
In the latest hearing, she was given a 12-month supervision order, a 16-week curfew with an electronic tag and was disqualified from driving for three years.
She was also asked to pay a fine of 60 pounds and will attend a drink-driver rehabilitation scheme.
Her husband, Nigel Hofmann, 42, has a butcher’’s business with four outlets in the area.
Jane Hofmann refused to comment after the case. (ANI)
