New Delhi, July 12 (ANI): The annual report of the Ministry of External Affairs has noted that there has been a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations between India and Pakistan due to its non committal of statements and promises given at a high level regarding the 26/11 attack on Mumbai.

The report mentions that dialogue between the two countries has paused because of elements responsible for the 26/11 attacks in Pakistan. Concrete evidences in this regard have been given to Pakistan, report adds.

The Ministry of External Affairs has also expressed its disappointment over the action taken by Pakistan to curb terrorist activities against India from its soil, and strongly criticized it for eroding the fundamental premise of the composite dialogue.

Some achievements were made in 2004 following commitments by Pakistan that “it would not permit territory under its control to be used to support terrorism in any form”, The Ministry of External Affairs report said. However, terrorism and non-implementation of its commitment has eroded the fundamental premise of the dialogue process, the report adds.
The report also mentions that terrorist attacks in India and on the Indian embassy in Kabul in July 2008, increase in ceasefire violations and continued infiltration across the Line of Control (LoC) has placed a strain on the dialogue process in general.

India it says, has taken several steps both bilaterally and at international fora to obtain Pakistan’s cooperation in bringing the perpetrators based in that country to justice and to ensure that such acts do not recur in future, the report says.

Because of India’s efforts, the United Nations has listed individual entities, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamat-ud-Daawa (JuD) as terror groups, the report mentions. (ANI)
