Maulana Vastanvi to stay as Vice-Chancellor of Dar-ul-Uloom
February 23rd, 2011 - 5:03 pm ICT by ANIDeoband, Feb 23 (ANI): Maulana Gulam Mohammad Vastanvi, who stirred a controversy with his remarks on Gujarat, will stay on as Vice Chancellor of Dar-ul-Uloom, the seminary in Deoband.
The decision was taken after an 18-member governing council of Majlis-e-Soora or governing council of Darul Uloom met here today to discuss the controversy.
According to reports, the governing council has appointed a four-member fact-finding committee to look into the matter.
Vastanvi, who hails from Surat and was elected Vice-Chancellor on January 10, has been facing protests from students at the seminary after he had said that Muslims should forget the communal pogrom of 2002 and move on and that the community did not face discrimination in Modi’s State at present.
Vastanvi is also in favour of modernization of education in Deoband. (ANI)
