Mary-Kate Olsen denies involvement in Heath Ledgers death
August 5th, 2008 - 6:11 pm ICT by ANINew York, Aug 5 (ANI): Actress Mary-Kate Olsen has denied her involvement in late actor and friend Heath Ledgers death due to drug overdose, insisting that she had “nothing whatsoever to do with it.
In a statement released by her lawyer, the Full House actress said she “had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger’’s home or his body” and does not know where he got them.
The 22-year-old star also refused to talk to US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents unless she is granted immunity from prosecution- raising questions about whether she has something to hide in her personal life.
According to the reports, Olsen has not been cooperating in the Ledgers death probe with federal drug officials.
But the feds have reportedly obtained a subpoena that would force her to testify before a federal grand jury if negotiations with her lawyer do not pan out.
“Regarding the government’’s investigation, at Ms. Olsen’’s request, we have provided the government with relevant information including facts in the chronology of events surrounding Mr. Ledger’’s death and the fact that Ms. Olsen does not know the source of the drugs Mr. Ledger consumed,” New York Post quoted Olsen’’s lawyer, Michael Miller, as saying.
Olsen has also refused to speak to DEA directly in stark contrast to other witnesses who have cooperated with the probe, including her own bodyguards
She had sent her bodyguards to Ledger’’s apartment after getting a call from a masseuse who found his body - and dialled the actress for help instead of 911.
A law-enforcement official said that authorities have in hand a subpoena that would force her to testify to a grand jury.
The investigators also said that if the probe is focused on Olsen’’s possible role, she would not be compelled to give testimony that incriminates her and would have the right to ask for immunity from prosecution or plead the Fifth. (ANI)
