Maoists kill three villagers in two separate incidents in Jharkhand
April 23rd, 2010 - 6:06 pm ICT by ANIRanchi (Jharkhand), Apr 23 (ANI): Suspected Maoists have killed three villagers in separate incidents in Jharkhand.
According to police, on late on Thursday night, the Maoists shot dead two persons at Lanjo village in West Singhbhum District.
Villagers informed the police that, while killing these two villagers the Maoists alleged that they were involved in extortion collection in the name of CPI (Maoist),
In another incident on the same night, over 20 armed Maoists raided a house at Chapiyamadgadh village in Garhwa District before taking out a man and shot him in a nearby forest area.
The Maoists team left a note at the spot stating the villager was a police informer.
Earlier this month, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram described the Maoists as anti-poor and anti-development.
He had said the Maoists have targeted all instruments of development.
“The Naxalites are anti-development and have targeted the very instruments of development - school buildings, roads, telephone towers etc. They know that development will mean the masses, especially poor tribals, wean them away from the grip of Naxalites,” Chidambaram said.
In 2009 alone, Maoists have demolished 71 school buildings, 23 Panchayat Bhawans, two power plants. They also destroyed 67 telephone exchanges or mobile towers.
Maoists also targeted railway property for 46 times and targeted specific industrial establishments at least 17 times in 2009. (ANI)
