Maoists kill security official in Jharkhand

Manmohan Singh Ghatshila (Jharkhand), Mar.25 (ANI): A security personnel has been killed in a clash with the Maoists in Ghatshila in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district.

Akhilesh Jha, Senior Superintendent of Police, said that they had received information about Maoists camping in the Bandarchuda hills in Ghatshila, following which an ambush, led by Sub-Divisional Officer Anish Gupta was carried out.

The police opened fired on the Maoist campsite and was met by a similar response by the rebels. A cross fire between the two took place in which one police personnel was killed.

No other police personnel has been reported injured.

Jha said that the exact number of the Maoists was not known, but they had been informed about the presence of 10-15 Maoists in the area.

The security personnel are now surveying the forest area for the Maoists.

The Maoists have spread into rural pockets of 20 of India’s 28 states. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had termed them as India’s gravest internal security threat.

Initially, the Maoists contended that they were fighting for the cause of the poor and weaker sections of the society. However, over the past two decades they have turned extremely violent. (ANI)
