P. Chidambaram East Singhbhum (Jharkhand), Jan 20 (ANI): Banned Maoists shot dead a college student in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum District on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place in Khokro village.

This is the second incident after Shibu Soren’s government assumed office in the state.

Last Friday, the Maoists triggered off a landmine, killing seven security personnel and a civilian in Gumla District.

On Monday, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had asked the Jharkhand Government to issue clear directions to the state police and administration to resolutely face the challenge of Naxalism.

“I sincerely hope that the new Government in Jharkhand will quickly settle down and give clear directions to the State Police and the State Administration to resolutely face the challenge of Naxalism,” he had said.

“I would urge all concerned - State Government, political parties, media, civil society and common citizens - to understand the true nature of the Naxal menace and once again resolve to put an end to Naxalism,” he added.

Chidambaram condemned the attack as an “act of mindless violence.” (ANI)
