Manmohan Singh to confer awards to Panchayati Raj institutions today

New Delhi, Apr 24 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, will confer awards to Panchayati Raj institutions for their excellent performance last year on National Panchayati Raj Day at the Vigyan Bhawan here on Sunday.
Apart from Dr. Singh, National Advisory Council Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will also address the inaugural function.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is organizing the National Panchayati Raj Divas today to mark the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992 that came into force with effect from April 24, 1993, which institutionalized Panchayati Raj through the village, intermediate and district levels panchayats.
The Panchayati Raj Divas will this year focus on the road map for the future to strengthen democracy at the grassroot level. (ANI)
