Manmohan Singh receives his Malaysian counterpart

Manmohan Singh New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Wednesday received Malaysian Prime Minister Mohammed Najib Tun Abdul Razak, with full ceremonial honours.

Dr Singh accompanied by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, received Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor at the President House.

Razak, who is on a five-day visit to New Delhi expressed hope that the visit would add ‘impetus and vigour’ to the relationship between India and Malaysia.

“I hope this visit will underscore the importance of our bilateral ties. India is one of our major strategic partners and I hope this visit will add impetus and vigour to this important relationship,” said Razak.

Several Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, chief ministers and members of Parliament have accompanied the Malaysian Prime Minister.

During his visit, Razak is expected to meet President Pratibha Patil, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.Razak will also address leaders of the corporate sector at a meeting hosted by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

There are reports that around 13 MoUs will be signed between India and Malaysia in the private sector.

At present, there are over 100 Indian companies registered in Malaysia including 60 joint ventures and the cumulative investments till 2008 were 1.8 billion dollars. (ANI)
