Manmohan Singh Jalalabad (Punjab), May 2 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Saturday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal for overlooking the interests of farmers in Punjab.

Addressing an election rally for Congress candidate Jagmeet Singh Brar in Jalalabad in the border district of Firozepur parliamentary constituency, Dr. Singh said that the two parties were unconcerned towards the issues of the agrarian community.

Accusing the BJP of making useless allegations on the Congress, he said that the opposition had no vital issues to talk about.

“The BJP and its partners are still looking for issues. Everyday, they are trying to create new issues. They only want to fight elections on false allegations. They are at a loss to find issues. They are making directionless allegations on the Congress,” said Dr. Singh.

The Prime Minister also accused the BJP- Shiromani Akali Dal combine of lying on issues concerning farmers in the country.

“The BJP and Akalis are shamelessly saying wrong things about issues concerning farmers. They are telling lies and the farmers will not forgive them,” he said.

Appreciating the efforts of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for the upliftment of the farmer community, Dr. Singh pointed out that during the past five years, the UPA has increased Minimum Support Price of wheat and rice.

Expressing gratitude towards the farmers for making the country self sufficient in foodgrains, he assured that the Centre is doing its level best for the overall development of the country by empowering the youth and farmers. (ANI)
