Manipur’s Tingkai village electrified by solar-wind hybrid project
December 22nd, 2010 - 7:42 pm ICT by ANITingkai (Manipur), Dec.22 (ANI): The authorities have electrified Tingkai village in Manipur’s Senapati District through a solar-wind hybrid project after five years of its resettlement in 2001.
The wind-solar hybrid project has been an amalgamated project of the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) of the government with technical inputs from the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
“This one is a project of wind and solar hybrid of 10 kilowatt capacity sponsored by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the State government. The total project cost is about rupees 54 lakhs,” said L Mangle Singh, Director, Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA).
Two villagers trained by MANIREDA would be supervising and maintaining the installation.
“The uniqueness of this project is that this project is on and operated by the village council themselves. We do provide technical and other assistance, we train them but the day-to-day maintenance and custodian of the project is under the Village Energy Committee and they have appointed two local villagers, whom we have trained and they will be responsible for sustenance and maintenance of the project,” said Mangle Singh.
Villagers are an elated lot since the advent of electricity in the area they would enable them to lead a better quality of life with the connectivity with the rest of the world.
“We have benefited a lot from every angle, for example a student can study more hours at night and for functioning any programme in our village goes smoothly, ever since this wind-solar project has been installed in our village,” said Nehkholen Haokip, the Tingkai village head.
Tingkai village have over 41 abodes with a population of over 230 people. (ANI)
