Manipur, Dec 20 (ANI): Budding theatre artistes in Manipur are showcasing their talent at the All Manipur Drama Festival being held here.
The 25th edition of the festival, organised by the Manipur State Kala Academy in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata, exhibits the performances of the state’s 19 prominent theatre groups.
The theatre extravaganza under the banner of “Manipur Theatre Today” brings together creative playwrights, directors, actors and designers, who at the same time get an opportunity to interact with the audience.
“Theatre is like education. It brings about a positive change in the minds of people participating in it. It has instilled a positive thought process in me. And seeing this, parents are encouraging their children to take up theatre,” said Romola Wenshembam, a female artiste.
Noted directors associated with the genre are also exhibiting their plays. The festival aims to promote, nurture and accelerate theatre in the state.
“Manipur Theatre Today” has been experimenting with different forms of theatre in a move to carve a niche in the world theatrical arena.
The Cosmopolitan Dramatic Union performed a play ‘Aranba Khongthang’ (A Wrong-step) directed by Nandakumar Moirang.
The play highlights problems resulting from pursuit of mundane pleasures and also widespread materialism prevalent in society.
“We have to revive conventional plays by highlighting various social issues and also reducing the commercial tone,” said Nandakumar Moirangthem, Director, Cosmopolitan Dramatic Union. (ANI)
