February 7th, 2009 - 2:50 pm ICT by ANI New Delhi, Feb 7 (ANI): The Mangalore police on Saturday arrested two people for attacking Shruti, daughter of Kerala’’s CPM MLA and her friend.
The MLA’’s daughter along with her friend was kidnapped and beaten up allegedly by Bajrang Dal activists.
Verifying the arrests, Inspector General of Mangalore A M Prasad said,” We have identified a few people involved in the incident and two boys have been picked up….”
The police have also identified four other culprits who are likely to be arrested soon.
“We are trying to find out whether the attackers belonged to Bajrang Dal or Sri Ram Sene,” said a police officer
The saffron group allegedly attacked Shruthi when she was returning to her hostel in Mangalore after holidays.
The brother of her Muslim classmate, Shabib, who was accompanying her, was also beaten up by the activists for talking to a Hindu girl.
Shruthi’’s father Kunhambu said, “A Muslim boy talking to a Hindu girl is a non-issue in Kerala. Goondas have assaulted them for no reason.”
The bus was stopped at Pumpwell Circle in Kanganadi, about one km from Mangalore. The attackers released Shruthi after knowing that she was the daughter of a MLA, but continued to harass Shabib.
Meanwhile, Sri Ram Sene’’s Karnataka state convenor Prasad Attavar has shrugged off the blaim of his outfit’’s involvement in the incident. (ANI)
