Maharashtra Government to reform education system to de-stress students
January 22nd, 2010 - 9:40 pm ICT by ANIMumbai, Jan 22(ANI): In a bid to de-stress the students, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is considering ‘Best of the Five’ as the criteria for the students aspiring admission in junior colleges.
Education Minister of Maharashtra Fauzia Khan stated this in Mumbai on Friday said that the board is considering the option for the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) students, which would allow them to choose five best subjects among the six that they can study and appear in.
The Minister said that the policy is presently under consideration and if implemented, it would definitely erase the anxiety among the students community.
“If the marks of the best five subjects are considered for admission process, then definitely the stress will be less,” Fauzia Khan said.
As per the education policy, the budding scholars will have to drop any subject among four, namely Mathematics, Social Sciences, Science and Hindi, in which they apprehend fears of scoring less marks.
However, as per certain media reports, Marathi and English will be compulsory.
It is learnt that the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education cleared this proposal recently and is waiting for its endorsement by the state government.
It may be noted that Maharashtra has recently witnessed spurt in the student suicides and the Education Minister had also ordered review of the curriculum for State Board schools to make it stress-free
However, the Education Minister Khan refused to admit that the spate of suicides prompted the government to review education policy by contending that the issue was being considered for the past four months. (ANI)
