Lieutenant General Nayanar takes over as DG Artillery

New Delhi, Aug 1 (ANI): Lieutenant General Vinod Nayanar on Sunday took over as the Director General (DG) Artillery from Lieutenant General KR Rao, who superannuated from service on July 31.

In his 39 years of eventful career, Lieutenant General Rao held various staff and command position, while serving in all terrains from Siachen to the Deserts.

He also has the rare distinction of having served in all the Strike Corps of the Indian Army at various appointments including the General Officer Commanding, Artillery Division.

Lieutenant General Rao also took part in the 1971 war and Operation Pawan in Sri Lank.

His earlier appointment as Director General Manpower and Personnel Services include landmarks contribution to the Indian Army like six central pay commission, AVSC 2 distribution and implementation modalities, granting permanent commission to women officers and reviewing various entry schemes to remove the shortage of officers.

Lieutenant General Rao later assumed the appointment of the Commandant School of Artillery, the alma mater of the Gunner fraternity.

As the Director General of Artillery, he spearheaded the modernization of Artillery and was instrumental in giving impetus to several acquisition of new generation equipment. (ANI)
