Washington, Nov.20 (ANI): Senator Joe Lieberman, and Independent and a close friend of John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate in 2008, has said that the time is right for America to reconcile with its myriad problems and rebuild under the Obama administration.
In an interview with Kate Couric of CBS, Lieberman said: I think it’’s so clear now that America’’s house is being threatened by fire that all of just got together and help to put out that fire and rebuild the house.
I think what the Democratic Caucus did yesterday in response to the appeal from president-elect Obama was to say “it’’s time for us to reconcile, to close ranks. Yes we didn”t like some of the things Joe Lieberman said during the campaign, but he’’s one of us,” he added.
It may be recalled that during the campaign, Lieberman had described Obama as a Marxist and though he was a former Democrat, he actively campaign fro McCain.
Lieberman said that as far supporting Obama is concerned, his commitment to help in any way would be full-hearted.
He said that the only reason he supported McCain during the campaign as an Independent Democrat was that he felt very strongly about the partisanship going on in American politics, which he added really stops us from getting things done for the American people.
He also said that he was quite taken aback that McCain wanted him to be his running mate, adding that the first thought that crossed his mind was How’’s he (McCain) gonna get the Republican Convention to confirm a Democratic vice presidential nominee?
He also welcomed the idea of Hillary Clinton becoming the next Secretary of State, adding that she would be a great one. (ANI)
