Lennons Give Peace a Chance lyrics to go under the hammerApril 30th, 2008 - 5:36 pm ICT by admin
London , Apr 30 (ANI): Legendary singer John-Lennons timeless lyrics for the song Give Peace a Chance will soon be going under hammer at an auction at Christies, London .
The late Beatle gave the lyrics to comedy writer Gail Renard, who was 16 at the time, when Lennon and Yoko Ono recorded the song in their hotel room during their Montreal “bed-in” in 1969.
Renard also got other mementos which now form a part of a collection, that includes some previously unseen photos and is expected to fetch up to 300,000 pounds, when it will be sold at Christie’s rock and pop memorabilia auction on 10 July, reports BBC.
In 1969, Renard was just student in Montreal when Lennon and Ono visited the city for their “bed-in”, which was a protest for peace when they had been denied access to the US .
At the time, she just managed to sneak into the Queen Elizabeth Hotel with a friend and managed to meet the couple and struck a life-long friendship by spending a whole week with the legendary star.
Thats when Lennon gave Renard a few mementos, including the lyrics, telling her “one day they will be worth something”. (ANI)
