Left, Trinamool student activists clash in West Bengal district
October 27th, 2010 - 7:40 pm ICT by ANIBardhaman (West Bengal), Oct. 27 (ANI): Students activists of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), main opposition of India’s West Bengal clashed with ruling Communist Party of India - Marxist student activists in Bardhaman district on Wednesday.
The clash began when TMC students union members staged a demonstration against the recruitment of employees at the Bardhaman University, which they alleged was illegal.
Police along with personnel of the paramilitary Rapid Action Force were called to control the situation at the university.
Ten students were arrested on Tuesday, whereas three more were arrested on Wednesday.
The TMC activists also alleged that the CPI (M) activists set their party office on fire.
Violent clashes between the CPI(M) and the TMC are fairly common in West Bengal state, where the atmosphere is rife with regular tensions between the two groups. (ANI)
