Left parties will take final decision on support to government on Monday

July 4th, 2008 - 8:17 pm ICT by ANI -

Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, July 4 (ANI): The Left parties have sent a letter to the head of the Left-UPA nuclear deal panel Pranab Mukherjee asking him about the final decision of the United Progressive Alliance government on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The Left has asked the government to reply by July 7.

The Left leaders will again meet on July 8 to take final decision on withdrawing the support to the government.

The Left has also decided to launch national campaign from July 14 against the UPA government’s anti-people policies.

The decision clears the Lefts stand of not withdrawing support to the UPA before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh leaves for Tokyo on Monday to attend the G8 summit.

The Left said, if the Left withdraws support before the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan, the UPA government would be reduced to a minority in Parliament and this would put pressure on the PM to skip the G8 summit where he is expected to interact with world leaders on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The Left Coordination Committee meeting, which began at the CPI (M) Headquarters, was attended by CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, his CPI counterpart A. B. Bardhan and other senior leaders, including CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury, CPI leader D. Raja, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leaders T J Chandrachoodan and Abani Roy and Forward Bloc’s Debabrata Biswas and G. Devarajan. (ANI)
