New Delhi, Nov 20(ANI): Lawyers from Uttar Pradesh held a demonstration in the national capital on Friday, demanding setting up of a Bench of the Allahabad High court in the region.
Hundreds of lawyers belonging to the region raised slogans against the state administration, demanding setting up of a Bench.
“We belong to Uttar Pradesh and we are demanding a High Court Bench in our region. The population of our region is 80 million and people have to travel 800-900 kilometers to Allahabad. We demand that a High Court Bench should be established anywhere in western Uttar Pradesh,” said Rajiv Singh, a lawyer.
Many leaders belonging to the Congress party and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were also present in the protest, extending support to the agitating lawyers.
BJP leader Varun Gandhi termed the protest as a fight for justice and said: “Leaders from different parties have extended support to the protest.”
“I believe that lawyers should be respected as they are the backbone of the democracy and are saviours of the society. I want that a High Court Bench should be established in the western Uttar Pradesh, whether in Agra or Meerut,” he added.
Lawyers have warned that the agitation will continue till the establishment of the Bench is announced. (ANI)
