Kutch, Jan 26 (ANI): Kutch, which lies in the bordering area of Gujarat observed the eighth anniversary of 2001 earthquake, which coincides with the Republic Day.
Blood donation camps were organised and special prayers and yagya were performed in remembrance of the 20,000 people who lost their lives in high magnitude earthquake.
A special tribute was paid to the 183 school children who lost their lives while saluting the tricolour when the earthquake struck.
The epicenter of the 2001 Gujarat earthquake was Bhuj. With a moment magnitude of 8.1, the quake killed atleast 20,000 people, injured another 167,000 and destroyed nearly a million homes throughout Gujarat and Eastern Pakistan. (ANI)
