Kumari Selja takes initiative for slum free Delhi
April 8th, 2011 - 8:44 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Apr 8(ANI): A meeting has been convened under the chairpersonship of Kumari Selja, Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister, on various issues related to planning and creating a ‘Slum Free Delhi’.
The meeting here yesterday was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Secretary (MoHUPA), Secretary (MoUD), Vice Chairman DDA, Principal Secretary (UD, GoNCTD), Commissioner MCD, CEO Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, Secretary NDMC and senior officials from NCR Planning Board, DDA, UDD GoNCTD, among others.
The meeting discussed in detail the various challenges facing Delhi with respect to planning for inclusive urban growth, and decided to chart out a plan of action to make Delhi slum free within a specified time frame.
“It was decided to constitute a high level committee with immediate effect of officials drawn from all the concerned departments and chaired by the Secretaries of the Ministries of Urban Development and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation to draw up a time-bound action plan and to suggest the necessary reform measures to be taken for inclusive urban planning,” a Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation statement said.
“The Committee was also mandated to suggest coordination mechanisms for ensuring timely implementation in view of the multiplicity of agencies in Delhi,” it added.
It was also decided that Selja and Sheila Dikshit would review the progress on a periodic basis to ensure effective implementation. (ANI)
