KP to read the riot act to players if they misbehave
October 20th, 2008 - 1:34 pm ICT by ANI London, Oct.20 (ANI): England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen has warned his team that will have to always be on their best behaviour under his watch.
Pietersen, who is known as KP in cricketing cricles, said that he is prepared to read the riot act out to his players if they “start prancing around like Flash Harrys.”
He has insisted that his team must display respect and restraint if they collect the biggest prize for a single match in the history of team sport.
Despite the hype surrounding Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanfords winner-takes-all one million pound extravaganza, Pietersen has said that his team will show decorum in Antigua on November 1.
If we win, that is fantastic. But I dont want the guys to be silly about their celebrations. Its a difficult time to talk about money, because of the world financial situation. There are a lot of people suffering, a lot of people losing their jobs. We cant run around trying to be Flash Harrys if we win. You have to be men about the situation and respectful of what is going on in the world,” The Sun quoted Pietersen, as saying.
If we win, Ill make a donation to charity. Im 100 per cent sure about that. Im not sure yet which charity. There are a lot of bridges to cross and now its a case of getting my head right, our preparation right and helping to pick the final XI, he added.
He declared: The ECB put the match into our schedule. The players are in no position to talk about vulgarity or whether it is right or wrong. Weve been picked to play for England in Antigua and thats the way it is. If we lose, no problem. We would still have got ready for India with two weeks of hard training and preparation. (ANI)
