Kiran Kumar Reddy sworn-in as 16th Andhra CM

Sonia Gandhi Hyderabad, Nov 25 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy was sworn-in as the 16th chief minister of the state on Thursday.

Governor E S L Narasimhan administered oath of office to him at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan here.

Reddy takes over from K Rosaiah, who resigned on Wednesday citing personal reasons.

“I have done my best as the chief minister of the state. No one asked for my resignation, it’s my own call. I urge my successor to keep Andhra Pradesh Congress together,” Rosaiah told reporters on Wednesday.

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party had on Wednesday asked Congress President Sonia Gandhi to decide upon the new leader.

She then conveyed her decision telephonically to Union Finance Minister and observer Pranab Mukherjee.

Kiran Reddy, 50, is one of the youngest chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh.

Reddy represents the Pileru Assembly constituency in Chittoor and is also a four-time member of the State Assembly since 1989. (ANI)
