Kins of Mumbai terror victims mourn their losses a month after the attack
December 26th, 2008 - 4:13 pm ICT by ANI Mumbai, Dec 26 (ANI): Although a month has passed since the Mumbai terror attacks, the kins of the victims still mourn their losses. The wounds run too deep to heal within the period.
It was exactly a month ago on November 26 when ten militants had laid siege to Mumbai and ran mayhem killing 179 people and injuring many more.
Life may have showed signs of limping back to ”normalcy” but those who lost their dear ones are yet to come to terms with their losses.
For Balaji Kharatmol, life has screeched to a halt. He vividly recalls the horrific encounter with the militants at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) while nursing bullet injuries.
Kharatmol lost his mother in the firing at the CST. Lifting her frail body, he was shot at by a militant. He is not yet able to move his hand.
His mother’’s loss had bearings on the earnings of the family, making the household difficult to run.
“I”m still unable to work. The injury from the bullet is still there on my fingers. My mother died in the attack. She used to sell fish and used to earn 250 rupees. We were the only earning members in our family. And now with her gone, and me lying with injury, there is nobody earning right now,” Kharatmol addede.
He shares fateful turn of events with Shamim Noori battling for the compensation money promised by the Maharashtra Government for the attack victims. The government had promised Rs 2.5 million to the families of victims who had died in the attacks.
Noori, who lost six of his family members in firing at CST, is still running from pillar to post to get the compensation promised by the government.
India have blamed Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for last month”’’s attacks in Mumbai that killed 179 people.
Pakistan denies any links to the assault, blaming “non-state actors” and has promised to cooperate in investigations into the assault if provided with proof. (ANI)
