Khurshid launches student module of OSMS for minority community students
April 15th, 2011 - 8:32 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Apr 15(ANI): Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday launched the student module of the Online Scholarship Management System (OSMS) for merit-cum-means based scholarship scheme of his ministry.
“With this facility now the students can apply online from anywhere for getting this scholarship. Just after the launch of this facility two students actually registered themselves online for the scholarship in the presence of the Minister,” the Minority Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
Launching the new facility, Khurshid hoped that the OSMS will be a great success and then this type of technical facility will be extended to other scholarship schemes of the Ministry.
He said that the vast opportunities provided by the new technologies should be fully utilized for the welfare of people, including minorities; and today’s launch is a step in that direction.
Vivek Mehrotra, Secretary of Ministry of Minority Affairs, and other senior officers of the Ministry were also present on the occasion.
Mehrotra gave details of various features of the OSMS being employed by the Ministry for its merit-cum-means based scholarship scheme for the students of minority communities.
He said that prior to this the ‘institute module’ of the software was made live from March 1.
The site can be accessed through URL www.momascholarship.gov.in. A link to the same is also available on www.minorityaffairs.gov.in. The software has been developed and maintained by the NIC,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs had decided to have an online system for the scholarship scheme in October last year.
A consensus to this effect was arrived at with all States/UTs in a meeting held with them on November 9, 2010.
The project was sanctioned in November 2010 and work for the development of the software was entrusted to NIC. (ANI)
