Aurangabad, Aug 13 (ANI): National flags made of indigenous Khadi cloth are in great demand ahead of Independence Day, which falls this year on Sunday.
The flag is traditionally made of hand-spun Khadi cloth, which was popularised by Mahatma Gandhi during India’s independence struggle against British colonial rule.
‘Marathwada Khadi Gram Udyog’, a small-scale unit in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district sells nearly six million flags every year.
The unit employs at least 300 tailors to meet the demand.
“The name of the cloth is Jhanda Khadi. The reason behind high demand of the flag is that the flags made out of this cloth are very strong and the colours don’t fade,” said N. V. Rajarganvkar, Khadi store in-charge.
The customers are also happy with the good quality of the flags.
“I have bought a new National flag from this place and am aware since my childhood that national flag must get from Khadi Gram Udyog only, as the store follows government’s terms and conditions for flag making. That’s why I have come here from Sillod,” said Janardan Rangnath. (ANI)
