Khadi goes stylish, attracts fashion conscious age group
November 18th, 2009 - 5:43 pm ICT by ANINew Delhi, Nov 18 (ANI): Khadi, the hand spun fabric that was backed by Mahatma Gandhi has undergone a major change to attract the customers with its new stylish look.
Once considered a uniform of politicians, the fabric now caters to the needs of today’s fashion conscious age group.
Populararised by many fashion designers, the fabric has gained international recognition and is now in fashion.
“Khadi is in fashion these days. Earlier only politicians used to wear it that too, only white kurta pajama. But nowadays, many fashion designers have also developed Khadi a lot. Ladies kurti, jeans wear, everything is available in Khadi. Today people wear Khadi for fashion, earlier it was a need. Khadi also provides employment to so many people. Everybody should wear it, it is such a cheap fabric and there is a lot of variety available in it as well,” said Bhikha Bhai Desai, a Khadi trader.
Customers at the Khadi exhibition were amazed to see the age-old fabric in a completely new appearance.
“Trends have changed. After coming here, I brought a lot of Khadi clothes; sari, coat and kids can even wear Khadi to parties. I feel like using Khadi only after today and also tell other people to use Khadi only. Trend has completely changed and I got to see an entirely new collection,” said Munish Saini, a customer.
Khadi is a versatile fabric and can be worn in every season.
Moreover, it provides employment to a large number of people in the rural areas and is a flourishing business at present. (ANI)
