Kathua District villagers complain of poor connectivity
September 6th, 2010 - 2:52 pm ICT by ANIKathua (Jammu and Kashmir), Sep 6 (ANI): Residents in several remote villages located near river Ujh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua District have complained of poor connectivity and isolation due to lack of proper infrastructure.
Over 15,000 people live here and they say that despite bringing their plight to the of the government’s notice, nothing has been done.
“We want the government to at least construct a small bridge over the river. People living here have tried to attract the attention of the government several times. They have also boycotted elections, but this hasn’t reaped any fruitful results,” said Brijeshwar Singh, a villager.
Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Cooperatives Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma said the state government has worked out plans for infrastructural developments, which will be executed soon.
“We want to connect every village. Under the Prime Minister’s road construction scheme, many roads are being constructed in different villages, districts and across state. Even in Kathua district, we are constructing many infrastructures. We would take up the building of Rs 22 core bridge either this year or the next year,” said Sharma. (ANI)
