Kashmiri youths stage protest in Srinagar
July 23rd, 2010 - 9:35 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, July 23 (ANI): Violent protests rocked Srinagar city after Friday prayers, as scores of Kashmiri youths took to the streets raising slogans against Jammu and Kashmir Government.
The protestors also burnt effigies of State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Raising pro-freedom slogans, they criticised police and the security forces against the recent killings in the valley.
Police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) resorted to use of tear gas to disperse the agitating youths.
The decision to deploy the Army was taken after Omar Abdullah made a formal request to the Central Government for its help in enforcing curfew and maintaining law and order in Srinagar.
At least 15 people have been killed in the clashes between protesters and security forces since June 11. (ANI)
