Kashmir Police outstanding, says home secretary
August 12th, 2011 - 12:16 am ICT by IANSSrinagar, Aug 11 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Police are an outstanding force which has done a commendable job in bringing peace and safeguarding public life and property while fighting militancy in the state, union Home Secretary R.K.Singh said Thursday.
On the concluding day of his two-day visit - his maiden visit to the state after taking over as home secretary - Singh chaired a meeting of the senior police officers here and expressed satisfaction over the law and order situation in the state.
“Nobody should be allowed to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere. Public interest cases must be investigated with utmost impartiality,” Singh told the local police officers.
He asked the state police to be vigilant against the “hawala” (illegal money transfers) activities by some elements.
“The amount received through various agencies by such elements is utilized for creating disruptive activities in the state and this should be checked effectively,” the home secretary cautioned.
Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda said the state police habe achieved significant progress in the orientation of their constabulary and officers in the latest techniques of policing.
He said training skills in the training institutions throughout the state have been upgraded, adding modern weaponry and security gadgets to make the organisation more effective.
