Kashmir in for another spell of snow, rain
February 23rd, 2011 - 3:14 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Feb 23 (IANS) Kashmir Valley is in for another spell of inclement weather with rain and snow likely at many places. Heavy snow and landslides have been predicted in the higher reaches during the next seven days.”A western disturbance has hit the Valley today (Wednesday) and under its influence, rain and snow will occur at many places in the plains,” weather office director Sonam Lotus said here.
“Heavy snowfall is likely to occur in the higher reaches, specially in the south Kashmir Pir Panchal Mountains,” Lotus said.
“Road and air traffic is likely to be disrupted because of inclement weather, which will continue till March 1.
“The day temperatures would fall by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius and the night temperatures would rise by 2 to 3 degrees during this period,” Lotus added.
The local disaster management cell has issued a landslide warning for the higher reaches of the Valley.
