Kashmir attention on Obama visit: Omar Abdullah
October 20th, 2010 - 9:16 pm ICT by IANS
Vijaypur (Kashmir), Oct 20 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday said his government was focused on a “forthcoming high level visit”, a reference to US President Barack Obama’s trip to India.
He made these remarks while talking to media persons at Vijaypur, 30 km south-west of Jammu.
“One of the areas of our attention is that when we get past the forthcoming high-level visit, then we will focus on other things,” the chief minister said.
He was describing the priority areas of his government in the face of continuing unrest in the Kashmir Valley which has seen unending protests, shutdowns and curfew for the past four months.
Obama is expected to visit India in early November, probably starting from Nov 5 in Mumbai. He will then travel to New Delhi.
Separatists have drawn up plans for strict shutdowns and protests in the Kashmir Valley during the Obama visit.
On Tuesday, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq started a signature campaign in Kashmir to press his case for US intervention in the Kashmir issue.
