Karunanidhi says, LTTE will not get a free run in Tamil NaduFebruary 4th, 2008 - 7:50 pm ICT by admin
Chennai, Feb 4 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Monday rebutted Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram remarks on the issue of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) saying that the rebel group does not have a “free run” in the state.
On Saturday, while addressing a public meeting at Nagercoil, Chidambaram had reportedly remarked that the LTTE was still carrying out its activities in Tamil Nadu and urged the M Karunanidhi Government to “nip the issue in the bud.”
“Our government will not certainly allow the LTTE to operate from Tamil Nadu,” Karunanidhi wrote in the DMK mouthpiece, Murasoli.
Citing the arrests of 11 LTTE rebels and 92 of its supporters, and arrests of 40 people under National Security Act as proof of his governments actions against the rebel group, Karunanidhi said, “We have nipped in the bud the LTTE activities in the state.”
Meanwhile, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director P C Haldar has called on Karunanidhi.
According to an official press release, the meeting was a “courtesy call.” (ANI)
