Karnataka Police detains five for role in Bangalore blasts
April 21st, 2010 - 6:03 pm ICT by ANIHubli (Karnataka), Apr 21 (ANI): The Karnataka Police has detained five people for questioning for their alleged role in the bomb blasts at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium last week.
According to the police, the arrests took place late on Tuesday night in Hubli over 400 kilometers from Bangalore.
All of the arrested are said to belong to Uttar Pradesh.
Police arrested M Irfan and Sunil Rao from a lodge in the city. Based on information given by these two, police arrested three others from the Khanapur region in Belgaum District.
Police said that after the attack all team members planned to flee to different parts of the state.
An investigation is on to ascertain reasons for planting the bombs.
A team from the Bangalore City Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has arrived here to take the arrested suspects to its custody.
At least 17 people were injured in the two low intensity bomb blasts that took place in the generator room situated near Gate No. 12 of the stadium on April 17.
Three more crude bombs were found and defused.
Players of two IPL teams were inside the stadium when the blasts took place.
Earlier in the day, Bangalore Police had released the sketch of a person they suspected of being involved in the twin blasts. (ANI)
