JD-S and BJP to ink pact for running of Karnataka Government and coalitionNovember 15th, 2007 - 5:23 pm ICT by admin
Bangalore, Nov.15 (ANI): In what could be a first in Indian politics, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal-Secular in Karnataka are likely to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that will outline guidelines for the sharing of power and for smooth running of a government.
According to a website report, the inking of the MoU has been mooted by the Janata Dal (Secular) to neutralise the BJP from hijacking the policies of the coalition that has been in existence for 20 months prior to the resignation of the Kumaraswamy ministry last month.
The signing of the pact is expected to take place on November 18, a day before Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa seeks a vote of confidence for his coalition government on the floor of the State Assembly.
Former Prime Minister H.D.DeveGowda is said to be the architect of the contents of the 12-point MoU.
One of the points in the MoU has already been implemented with the swearing in of Yeddyurappa as chief minister.
A Deputy Chief Minister is likely to be announced on November 21 when the JD-S ministers join the ministry. (ANI)
