Jayalalithaa slams Kapil Sibal for faulting CAG report
January 20th, 2011 - 5:58 pm ICT by ANIChennai, Jan 20 (ANI): All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary J. Jayalalithaa has criticized Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal for faulting the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report that accuses former Telecom Minister A. Raja for his role in the 2G scam.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Jayalalithaa said: “Kapil Sibal has committed contempt of court by rubbishing the loss estimates of the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) in the allocation of 2G spectrum since CAG is a constitutional body.”
She also termed the statement made by Sibal contempt to court and also against the constitution.
“It is totally unacceptable of a statement by Kapil Sibal terming the Comptroller and Auditor General report as wrong. It is highly deplorable; in fact it is an act that is against the constitution. It also could be termed as contempt of court,” said Jayalalithaa.
She also alleged that Congress party is giving the impression that it is willing to destabilize every constitutional authority in the country for the sake of its ally Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
Sibal on January 7 challenged the CAG’s report, saying the figure of Rs. 1.76 lakh crore is utterly erroneous.
“Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) figure of Rs. 1.76 lakh crore is utterly erroneous. The losses were much lower and that over Rs. 100 crore had been recovered after the government sent out notices,” he told reporters.
The Minister said he agreed with the CAG on two counts - one, that there was something wrong with the rollout of the telecom policy and two, that there was criminal culpability and which is why the CBI, under the Supreme Court, was investigating the matter. (ANI)
