Jammu and Kashmir deputy speaker not to take back resignation
March 9th, 2011 - 9:32 pm ICT by IANSJammu, March 9 (IANS) Deputy Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sartaj Madni who had resigned last week protesting against the alleged partisan role of Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone has refused to take back his resignation letter, according to sources close to him.
Madni, who belongs to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had sent his resignation letter to the speaker while charging him with adopting a “partisan role”. The resignation came after the speaker was quoted in a local newspaper charging Madni with toeing the party line and having joined the opposition protests in the house.
In spite of repeated appeals to Madni by the speaker and the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagr to withdraw his resignation, he has refused to do so.
Sources close to him said he would press for the acceptance of his resignation.
Madni is waiting for his seat to be allotted as an MLA so that he could return to the house, sources close to him told IANS Wednesday. He was elected deputy speaker two years ago.
