J-K panchayat poll: Woman candidate shot dead
April 16th, 2011 - 12:17 pm ICT by ANISrinagar, Apr 16 (ANI): Militants have allegedly shot dead a woman candidate of panchayat elections in Chrar-e-Sharief area of Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Forty-year-old Hasina Begum, was shot dead by ultras at Karpora in Pakherpora area last night.
She was rushed to the District Hospital Pulwama where she succumbed to injuries. Although the panchayat elections are being held on non-partisan basis, Begum was affiliated with opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This is the first political killing in Jammu and Kashmir since the 16-phase polls began on April 13. (ANI)
