Gulmarg, Apr 15(ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday organized a snow football game to boost tourism in the region.

The first ever snow football match in the picturesque Gulmarg was organized by the Tourism Department and the Kashmir University.

“We thought of introducing the seven-a-side format on snow. And this is the effort that we are making that from tourism point of view Gulmarg is a tourist resort and so we think that this sport will boost tourism,” said Sajid Yousuf Dar, organizer.

During the event two teams from different colleges of the university participated and competed with each other.

“I’m hoping that the event is organized again next year because our tourism will get a lot of boost. Tourists come to see the snow as Kashmir’s snow is known worldwide. And if such football tournaments are organized then other players will also come here and will get exposure,” said Owais Farooq, a football player.

Another player said that he was lucky to be a part of the first ever snow football event.

“I feel very lucky to be a part of the first snow football match in Gulmarg,” said Musadiq Ahmad, another football player. (ANI)
